Caught in bright blue light

ATTIC

Inspired by the children’s book "Skellig" by David Almond, this piece is created by comparing the artist’s body to the angel in the attic, who is the main character of the book. Movements were inspired by both the feeling of loneliness and an imagined attic scenery from reading the book.

“Awa” / Caught in bright blue light

The Japanese kanji「泡」"awa" (meaning “bubble”) is constructed using three parts. The symbol in the middle is translated as “self.” The “self” character is surrounded by the symbol for “water.” The two symbols on the right side, when combined, can mean “to be wrapped.”

In this kanji, the artist sees the people of our blue earth, enveloped by blue light radiating from phones and computer screens, each surrounded by bubbles which rise up to the surface from the depths of the blue sea.

The artist compares this kanji to life itself - how it is covered and wrapped up in so many filters, akin to floating bubbles, which float wrapped in shell and water.

The genocide of Palestinians that continues to this day is an event that greatly changes how the artist lives and thinks. In full criticism of Israel’s killing of thousands of innocent lives, deep life reflections were experienced when the artist met others through many protest activities and experienced their various thoughts.

All three works of this production strongly reflect these contemplations and experiences.

“In this world, where massacres have yet to cease
How do we swim through this ocean?”

David Almond著の児童文学『Skellig』から着想を得て登場する屋根裏の天使とアーティスト自身の身体を
照らし合わせ制作。孤独感、そして舞台となる屋根裏の情景に想いを馳せ動きを作った。

泡 / Caught in bright blue light
